Success Over Stigma: Living a Successful Life with Bipolar – black dog pie: a magazine on depression and bipolar

Love this quote: “the reason you don’t actually cross the road when you see your BPD neighbour is that….. you have no idea she has it”

One of the many sorry myths of bipolar disorder is that sufferers are innately destructive.

Or try asocial. Or how about sex crazed. Or just plain crazed.

Anyway you cut it, it seems that common sense says you should just cross the street when you spot your neighbour with bipolar.

And yet there are many people with bipolar who have managed to live very successful and creative lives. One of my inspirations was Kay Redfield Jamison, whose memoir, An Unquiet Mind, is a must read for everyone struggling with mental illness.

In fact, the reason you don’t actually cross the road when you see your BPD neighbour is that….. you have no idea she has it.

She lets your kids play with her kids in her backyard, and once she gave you a lift to the supermarket when your car broke down. Pretty nuts, huh?
